How To Prepare
To achieve the best results from your Permanent Makeup Removal treatment, it’s important to properly prepare. Follow these steps:
Consultation: Book an initial consultation with our experts to assess your permanent makeup and discuss your goals. This allows us to develop a tailored treatment plan.
Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep the area to be treated out of direct sunlight for at least two weeks prior to your session. Sunburned or tanned skin can increase the risk of adverse effects.

Lip Blush: If you are prone to cold sores, please take antiviral medication before and after your treatment according to your doctors recommendations.

FAQs
Have questions? We have the answers! Explore our FAQ section to find everything you need to know.
Why can Permanent Makeup change color after laser treatment?
In some cases after laser removal, you may notice the pigment change in color. This is because permanent makeup is commonly made up of various colors such as black, red and yellow. As we remove these pigments, the colors underneath may start to become visible and appear red, pink, orange or even yellow. Oxidation of iron oxide and titanium dioxide contained in some permanent makeup can also occur causing pigments to darken or change color. Every client is unique and our experts will create a personalized treatment plan that is tailored to you.
What does aftercare involve?
Aftercare is a crucial part of the Permanent Makeup Removal process, and it is essential to follow the instructions provided by our team closely. After each session, keep the treated area clean and dry—gently cleanse with mild soap and water, and avoid scrubbing or soaking the area. Protect the area from direct sun exposure by wearing sunscreen with a high SPF, as UV rays can increase the risk of pigmentation changes.
Apply any recommended ointments to keep the area moisturized and promote healing, and avoid picking or scratching at scabs or peeling skin to prevent scarring. Monitor for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, discharge, or swelling, and contact us immediately if you notice anything concerning.
What should I expect post-treatment?
After each session, it is normal to experience some redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area, similar to a mild sunburn. These side effects usually subside within a few days as the skin begins to heal.
How many sessions are needed?
The number of sessions required for Permanent Makeup Removal can vary based on several factors, such as the pigment depth, color, skin type, and area being treated. Typically, most clients need between 3-6 sessions to achieve their desired results. The sessions are spaced 6-8 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal fully and for the lymphatic system to remove the broken-down pigment particles.
During your consultation, our technicians will evaluate the treated area and provide you with a personalized treatment plan, giving you a realistic timeline for achieving the best possible outcome.
Is Permanent Makeup Removal painful?
Clients often describe the sensation during laser removal as being similar to a rubber band snap against the skin, accompanied by a mild stinging or tingling feeling. To minimize discomfort, we utilize a Zimmer Cryo cooling system that blows cold air onto the treatment area during the procedure, which helps to numb the skin and alleviate pain.
Additionally, an optional numbing cream can be applied before the session to further reduce discomfort. We strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible, and most clients find that the pain is manageable with these supportive measures.
What colors can be treated?
The PicoWay® laser is capable of treating a wide range of permanent makeup colors, making it highly versatile. Permanent makeup most commonly contains black, red and yellow pigments. Black and red have the greatest success of removal whereas yellow, blue, and green are more challenging. At Reversal we also combine multiple advanced modalities to remove stubborn colors such as yellow with greater success.
This versatility is a significant advantage over older laser systems, which often struggled with certain shades. Whether you have light, dark, or multi-colored permanent makeup, PicoWay® can effectively break down the pigment for removal, and our experienced technicians will tailor the treatment based on the specific colors used.
Is Permanent Makeup Removal safe?
Yes, Permanent Makeup Removal using the PicoWay® laser is considered safe when performed by a trained professional. The precision of the picosecond pulses allows us to target the pigment without overheating or causing unnecessary damage to the surrounding skin, which is particularly important in delicate areas like the face.
To further enhance safety, we provide detailed pre- and post-treatment guidelines that help reduce the risk of side effects, such as irritation or pigmentation changes. By adhering to these guidelines, clients can experience safe and successful removal with minimal risks.
How does Permanent Makeup Removal work?
The PicoWay® laser works by emitting ultra-short picosecond pulses that create rapid pressure waves, breaking down the pigment particles in the permanent makeup into tiny fragments. Unlike older laser systems that generate excessive heat, the PicoWay® laser minimizes the risk of damaging surrounding tissues, making it safe for sensitive areas such as around the eyes and lips.
Once the pigment is broken down, the body’s natural lymphatic system gradually removes these tiny particles over several weeks, resulting in gradual fading of the unwanted makeup. Multiple sessions are typically required, spaced out to allow for healing and effective pigment reduction.
What is Permanent Makeup Removal?
Permanent Makeup Removal is a specialized laser procedure designed to safely break down and eliminate pigments used in cosmetic tattoos, such as eyebrows, lip liner, or scalp micropigmentation. At Reversal Laser Studio, we use the advanced PicoWay® laser to effectively target and remove these pigments.
Unlike traditional methods, PicoWay® technology provides a faster and safer solution, requiring fewer sessions to achieve desired results. This makes it an excellent option for those looking to remove or adjust their permanent makeup while minimizing risks and downtime.
